Take 2 large carrots (peeled), 1 jar of whole / crushed tomatoes, half a squash, large leafy parsley, 5 dl green beans, oregano, thyme, salt, pepper. Peel and chop the vegetables and mix the spices, boil in the broth for about 10 minutes. Mix to a smooth soup with a blender, dilute with water to your liking. When the stomach feels better, you can also mix in broccoli, cabbage and / or other root vegetables, garlic, rosemary and a few tablespoons of sweet chili sauce. This version of the soup is actually a full-standing family meal.. But do not use other onion, since it contains fibers that are hard on the stomach; against the background of diarrhea, the enzymes required for their digestion are most likely to not be released.

20. Baby food cans and liquid food substitutes

Recovering from diarrhea feels so much better when you can find a way to fill your stomach with foods that are both calorie-dense and easy on the stomach. In this regard, baby food is the best call. Use chicken, turkey or purees – just about anything you find palatable will do. Liquid food cans are a legitimate alternative to those, perhaps with an even bigger gourmet range for when you feel picky. Carrot, banana, blueberries, pumpkin, apple mousses are the best choices for stopping diarrhea in its tracks.

21. Home-made electrolytes for rehydrating after diarrhea

Take drinking water (about 4 cups), a little bit of salt (it binds the body’s fluid), ½ teaspoon will do, and 6 teaspoons of sugar. Boil the solution and let it cool. Sip on it as it is or brew tea on it for the sake of improving the taste.

22. Buckthorn berries with sugar

Buckthorn berries ground with sugar are good for your palate as well as for your stomach. Take a cup of fresh or frozen buckthorn berries, a couple of tablespoons of brown sugar (or more, if your sweet tooth has not resigned itself to diarrhea), and grind them with a fork or process in a blender. The efficacy of this home remedy for diarrhea can be tuned up if you have it with a cup of hot tea.

23. Rosehip soup

For when you want your diarrhea remedy to have a gourmet feeling to it, or the foodie in you does not succumb to the necessity to recede to ascetic, you can indulge in a traditional Scandinavian meal that is enjoyed both as a dinner course and on a sickbed. We are talking about rosehip soup now. The soup made of rosehips, water, sugar and potato flour. Milk or cream is not included in basic recipes but can be used to get a thicker consistency. Rosehip soup can be cooked with dried and tailed rosehips (remove seeds before using those) or fresh rosehip berries, tailed, de-seeded, boiled and steamed until soft. You can remove seeds by rubbing the berries through a mesh sieve. Rosehip soup can be either hot or cold, either on a plate or in a cup / drinking glass. It is usually served as snack or dessert and sometimes with almond biscuits, sliced banana, flaked almond, whipped cream or vanilla ice cream which are all good for when diarrhea strikes.

Rinse the rosehip berries well and tail them. You can use cleaned whole rosehips (but still sieve them through) or clean them by dividing them and piling out the inside. Mix the rosehip roughly with a blender or in a food processor. Add back to the saucepan and measure with water. Boil the cleaned berries for 20 minutes and stir and mash them at the end with a potato batter, mixer, blender or food processor.

For dried rosehip berries, do as follows: soak the dried rosehips in a saucepan with the water – preferably overnight. It’s also possible to let them soak for an hour or a few minutes before cooking. Mix the rosehip roughly with a blender or in a food processor. Put them back to the pan. For more flavor, add freshly ground cinnamon. Boil dried rosehips for 3 hours on medium heat with a lid on. Stir every now and then.


Remove the berries from the heat and sieve process them in a blender, etc. and wipe off the seeds and coarse shell. Rub the berries through a durable mesh sieve. Any leftovers can be use later for brewing rosehip tea which is extra friendly for your kidneys. Work through the next round of rosehip until you have processed all the berries. Add a cup of brown sugar to 6 cups of  and mix 3-4 tablespoons of potato flour with 5 tablespoons of water and whisk in the soup. Heat the rosehips soup in a saucepan while stirring. Allow the rosehip soup to boil. After the first bubbles appear, place the soup aside to cool or serve hot to anyone who suffers from diarrhea.

24. Blueberry juice

Drink freshly squeezed or store-bought blueberry juice. Alternatively, process frozen berries with a blender for a gourmet homemade remedy against diarrhea. The stringent ferments in the berries will have a binding effect on your loose stools.

25. Vinegar and water

Dilute 1 tablespoon of about any vinegar you have in the house in a cup of warm water. Drink in one sitting.

26. Peppercorns, weight-wise

Swallow whole peppercorns, counting 1 peppercorn per every 20 pounds of your weight. Thus, if you have roughly 140 pounds of weight, take 7 peppercorns down with a substantial quality of lukewarm water.

27. Aloe Vera

Have an Aloe Vera drink. It protects against most stomach troubles. In addition to that, you get grabfuls of good vitamins and minerals.

28. Boiled egg

Hard-boiled eggs are good to start with when you are over the weather. It is one of those foods that prevent your stomach from freaking out into yet another bout of diarrhea when you are in the recovery stage.


29. Potato flour

1½ teaspoon of potato flour blended in a glass of water has a stringent effect on the stomach exposed to diarrhea. You can use half a cup of juice, fresh or store-bought, or sugar in order to make the concoction more palatable.

30. Grenoble mixture

This home remedy for diarrhea, for some reason alluded to as Grenoble mixture in traditional medicine, is made up by ½ cup of orange juice, 3 cups boiled, slightly cooled water, 1 tablespoon of glucose or sugar, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Mix and drink in one sitting.

31. Military remedy against diarrhea

Many believe that this is the most elegant and one of the most effective remedies against diarrhea and stomach flu. Mix half Coca Cola and half boiled water and drink at will whenever diarrhea strikes.

33. Tea and honey

Camomile tea is one of the best teas against diarrhea, since chamomile is known for its antiseptic qualities. However, if you do not happen to have any in your pantry, or happen to be inexplicably averse to it, just about any tea or herbal infusion will do. The trick is for it to be served with honey, again, a known bactericidal agent, and to be hot.

34. Blueberry infusion

1 tablespoon of dried blueberries, 4 cups of water, ½ pack gingerbread spices, 1 teaspoon of squeezed lemon. Place the blueberries in the water overnight. Put in the spice pie, boil slowly and simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove the saucepan, allow the liquid to draw under the lid for 5 minutes. Mix in lemon juice and drink a glass every few hours, hot or cold.

35. Rice with yogurt

Cook rice as directed but skip the salt, and have it with a side of natural yoghurt. This latter does not irritate the stomach even though it is a milk product and contains beneficial bacteria like the stomach needs. It isn’t necessarily all that appealing to the taste buds. You can make it more fun by adding stomach-friendly fruits or berries like those described above.

36. Candy, lemon, salt

A bowl of cornflakes or corn puffs with a bit of water, salt and a few drops of lemon juice, freshly squeezed, is what your stomach screams after. The combination of sugar, salt and acid is what will kick-start it after diarrhea. The puffs themselves are full of sugar and the right itself is not awkward, but quite easy to get after even a few days of acute gastrointestinal problems.

37. Orange cure for diarrhea

This cure is very effective against general weakness, anemia and poor digestion: on the first day eat 1 orange, increase to 2 on the second day, and go on with a step of one orange until 25th of the day is consumed 25 oranges. The next thing to do is to go back with 1 orange reduction a day until you get back to 1 orange. Then make a three week’s pause, after which the cure is done two more times with three weeks’ stay between the courses.


38. Rice and Medicol

Boil ½ cup rice in 1 cup water, first drink the water slowly, lukewarm and then eat the rice. Repeat a couple of times during the day. Follow with a glass of Medicol.

When you have loose stools, your body also sheds off with extra water and can be dehydrated. Then it is important to get enough water to maintain the fluid balance.
